    WARS OF ERONOTH

Long ago, the planet of Eronoth was an empty and soulless orb within the grand cosmos. There was no life upon the empty planet, nor land or the brush of wind, it was a blank canvas. However, Eronoth would soon come to be visited by celestial beings, two of which are still revered by the beings they left behind, the gentle goddess embodied by holy light, Estra and her mate, Tirinus a god that embodied war and strife. Though they were two sides of the same coin, one who embraced balance and the other chaos, the two sought out to bring life to Eronoth and had placed the first two races upon the planet: Fae-like beings and elves being brought to life by Estra’s fair hand, and Orcs and Demons being brought to the planet by Tirinus. They brought the continents to life, bringing with it substantial food and lush forests for their children to explore, but Tirinus as time began to pass was beginning to grow envious of Estra’s creations. His mate’s creations were adored by the goddess, as the fair maiden would always sweep up her loving children in her embrace, showering them with her affection. Not only were Estra’s children taking his mate’s love, they were beautiful, graceful beings whom gave off Estra’s beautiful light that for many millennia Tirinus had tried to keep himself from envying such beauty. So, with envy twisting his soul like that of blight; Tirinus had turned against Estra’s precious children, allowing his own creations to give into their inherited bloodlust from their god of chaos.

Estra was horrified at her mate’s sudden cruelty as he forced his children to slaughter her defenseless ones and in desperation, Estra had encouraged her children to fight against Tirinus though her heart broke with the vicious betrayal her lover had suddenly given her, resulting in the eventual point where Estra would finally attempt to fight Tirinus. The deity’s war had caused devastation in the midst of their mortal children, the land of Eronoth giving way to wave after wave of devastating catastrophic events. As Tirinus’ anger increased with each passing decade of war, so did Estra’s pain, as her mate’s blood would soon be shed and Estra’s tears, this would give rise to the various dragon flight who would individually pledge their loyalties to whomever they had risen from. From this point on, the ancient war would only take more lives, resulting in the deities whom were now locked within centuries of war to bring more souls to life in order to bolster their forces. This did little more but bring more suffering, and having come to that understanding, Estra had finally dared to kill Tirinus, the mate whom she had at one time loved dearly now being nothing more than a monster before her eyes. As the goddess plunged her blade into Tirinus’ heart within the final battle of the war of the ancients, she had taken it upon herself to plunge both her and her mate into a never ending sleep in the planet’s core. Eronoth, more obvious to her eyes than before had suffered endlessly at the hands of immortals and she could no longer bear to bring more pain on both her and her mate’s creations, nor could she bring herself to part from Tirinus fully. So, as she plunged herself into the Waking Twilight alongside the dying Tirinus, and with them the nearly immortal beings called dragons would soon follow behind their masters, fading away from the memories of the mortal races and sleeping alongside their creators.

Centuries passed after the war of the ancients and eventually the mortal races had begun to thrive on their own without the close interactions of their patrons, becoming resilient in their own ways and yet still fighting one another. Tirinus’ anger had not subsided within his children from stories passed on from days of old thus giving way to their more war-like ways, and Estra’s pain would never fade from the stories passed on from those who served her leading to the inevitable many skirmishes and wars between the two factions which would begin anew, leading to a new era of constant fighting and struggles for survival on Eronoth’s surface.

    CURRENT PLOT

The factions of the Honorguard and Bloodbound are once again at war, fighting for resources and with the elven city of Gracewood recently being taken by the Bloodbound, the Honorguard are more on the offensive with their attacks to attempt to reclaim lost land. The Bloodbound struggle to keep onto the new land they had obtained, as attempting to get any sort of land that is beneficial to them is difficult, more so with the Honorguard having ownership of all the land that could be seen as bountiful.

However, with the awakening of the dragons from the Waking Twilight, the Honorguard and Bloodbound are now seeking out the ancient dragon’s power, hoping to add unto their ranks for more power against the opposing faction. But, with this development of sudden awakening, the Waking Twilight is beginning to creep into the realm of the mortals as Estra’s spell to attempt to keep herself and Tirinus locked in a deep sleep is loosening, which is giving way to the god of chaos beginning to whisper once more to the minds of the Bloodbound, his children which due to the Waking Twilight’s hold on him had fully twisted Tirinus into a soul of maliciousness to wipe out any and all life that his mate had brought into the world.

Yube had little recollection of his life before now. His mind could no longer remember the stench of his rural homeland, nor the smile of his mother or the rest of his family. He could no longer recall even the sound of their voices, or the terror he had experienced before his life had been changed abruptly, nor did he even so much as remember the reason why everything had come to such events. But, with such a large chunk of his memory gone, Yube didn’t feel the need to regain them, and he didn’t much care to even recall such fuzzy memories. They were obviously of no use to him now, as he certainly was no longer human. No, Yube was far different from a human – he was a ghoul, and not just any of the mindless ghouls who served his master, but one with intelligence and blessed with powers akin to the land’s best mages… if there were any remaining.

The land had been absolutely and utterly decimated by his master’s undead army, and for seven years his master had waged war against the disappointingly weak beings called humans. There was a large fighting force in the beginning, with soldiers being drafted into the kingdom’s ranks to bolster their numbers. Mages from the various magic academies would send their best students to aid in the fighting, and of course the holy branches of the kingdom’s religious force had sent their priests and priestesses to fight against the unholy masses of the undead. But, humans were quick to realize their doom as each man who fell to the army of undead would come back only to turn on their comrades and slaughter indiscriminately. With Yube at the forefront of every battle, wielding his immense prowess in the magical arts, the human’s forces were quick to scatter and fall underneath each wave of the undead.

The next amusing step the humans took in their rebellion were to hole themselves off from the masses of the undead. After all, walls could potentially hold the undead forces back until they were able to rebuild and fight back again. But, underneath his master’s will, Yube would personally poison the water ways into the many rebel human fortresses and thus people were beginning to fall rapidly to the plague of death. Even if one didn’t drink the poisoned water, eventually out of desperation the humans would either drink to relieve themselves of the pain of dehydration, or they would die without water and of course their corpses would be raised again by his master to be his new pawns. And he had to admit, this worked remarkably well… at least that was until the humans in their stubbornness to not give themselves over to their master’s demand had formed the final stand of defiance against the undead threat that they faced, a group who called themselves Hope’s Brigade. Laughably, Hope’s Brigade consisted of the very few priests and priestesses who hadn’t succumbed to the undead army and the remains of the humans who still were too stubborn to give in and die. And this amused Yube to no end, with very little hope that they had left, his human prey continued to show defiance and anger, daring to attack his forces of undead day in and out.

This would lead to his inevitable power struggle with the Hope’s Brigade. In the first few years, Yube had underestimated the amount of damage they could cause. He sent only a small amount of his forces to deal with them, and all he observed would be annihilated by the priests and priestesses who instead of focusing on healing, now focused on offense to defend themselves and the scattered remnants of humans they protected. Next, he tried poisoning them, a usually effective method, but unknown to him the priests had learned from the mistakes of previous groups of humans in the earlier years of the war and grew their own crops from within their secluded base, and secured a small water way for themselves so that they would not risk turning into the undead. Of course, this vexed him but only slightly. His opponents were becoming wiser, which was becoming worrisome. If he didn’t wish to be destroyed by his master, he needed only to eliminate the threat as soon as possible before they could recover. Thus would result in the one year war upon Hope’s Brigade with a desperate attack from the undead he had been given the opportunity to command.

The war was long, tiresome and irritating at some points to Yube, but eventually as time wore on the human’s defenses weakened further and further until their defenselessness was completely laughable to the mage. His long awaited victory was at hand, and with one final attack upon the human base, he would once again taste triumph. This victory happened during the heat of summer, and the fortified walls of Hope’s Brigade had finally been completely broken, humans ran at the sight of the undead crawling over the wall and Yube could hear the frantic cries and angry shouts of the humans above the mindless groaning and snarls of the undead. The mage would not approach the battlefield until the end, where most if not all of the fighting had stilled and only then had Yube graced the pitiful humans remaining with his grand presence.

Upon stepping on the ruined remains of Hope’s Brigade, he could see the anger reflected in the survivor’s gazes who stared back at him in defiance, having nowhere to run due to the abominations of ghouls looming behind them, eager to devour the pitiful creatures. The sight made a cold, cruel smile slowly touch his lips as he looked back upon them, no shame in his gaze nor finding no fault in his actions. Of course, this was merely his master’s will, and as his master’s loyal servant; he would make sure that each order would be fulfilled to the best of his ability. He cared not if the humans found him to be a monster; they shouldn’t have resisted the great necromancer’s will.

“Humans of Hope’s Brigade,” He began to speak, spreading his arms outward, holding tightly his staff in one hand as a vicious smile fully blossomed upon his face, “By the will of my great master, you all will come to serve and love him in a gracious second life. Accept his gift with gratitude, for your fate is one that is rather kind compared to what he could have chosen with the resistance you have given so far!” He could see the humans beginning to tense in their anger; he could feel the summer air beginning to thicken with their hatred. Oh, Yube absolutely loved it, every single second of their hate he took an odd pleasure in. He desired to fan the flames of their anger more, but he would not push it. Humans were oddly defiant little creatures, and he certainly didn’t want them to rebel again, less they would die far too fast for him to enjoy it.

Lowering his arms to his sides and firmly planting his staff into the earth beside him, the mage’s pale gold eyes shifted over the many humans before him, almost as if assessing to see who would go first. His pale, dry lips cracked in a wicked smile as he purred, “Now, which one of you will accept my master’s gracious gift first?”

    (everything looks good to me!)

There was a collective, tense silence within the ranks of humans before one in particular had raised her voice to break it, causing Yube to look upon the pitiful human woman who seemed so self-righteous in her attempt to sacrifice herself. A tingle had spread across his skin, which was a rare occurrence as he, being a mage of great ability was sensitive to others with powerful magic abilities. This one in particular seemed to be quite strong compared to the other remaining priests and priestesses being held back by his undead subordinates. Her eyes were defiant, blazing in her anger which for once had caused Yube’s smile to drop.

He was used to humans openly showing their defiance toward him and others who have also had the misfortune of turning into the undead. Her defiance did not disturb him, nor displease him in particular, he merely was… curious. Yes, curious was the emotion able to describe the feelings coursing in his usually empty soul. How was one with such power able to be quickly subdued? With the amount he was feeling; all of his minions would have been burned away by the holy light, including him. So that left him with the question, why did she not use it? Was there some foolish moral stand point she was using to hold herself back, or was it something more complicated? No matter, that was something he had no desire to dig into right now.

Her defiant words did cause his expression to drop into a frown, more so her questions which seemed to have caused the ghoul a bit of distress. He never once had questioned the great necromancer’s objective, for he was merely a pawn for his master to use. If he continued to show his worth to his master, he would not be disposed of, and oddly enough Yube had a strange desire to live despite being quite the opposite. Could he even say he was living if his master’s demands controlled most of his actions? But, if it pleased his master then surely whatever end goal the necromancer planned is justice for this dirty world and the weak creatures who refused his master’s gifts. Yube should never falter in his faith to him, and he wouldn’t start just because some frail human questioned his actions.

Turning his staff within his hands, he pointed the sickly green glow of the staff’s stone underneath the human woman’s neck, the chill of the green stone pressing against her throat as his expression still retained his frown for a few seconds only for a cold smile to once more take hold of his features, “I’m afraid you are in no position to negotiate. Asking me to spare your people is something that I cannot do, nor do I feel particularly merciful today,” His pale eyes shifted over the small amount of humans all gathered behind her, “After all, you’ve resisted to the point that my patience has worn thin. Granting you the master’s gift of undeath is perhaps more so of a reward than a punishment for your actions.”

The mage however lowered the staff from the woman’s neck, firmly planting it next to him as he looked down upon her, “However, I am not an unreasonable man. Rather than a negotiation, let us partake in a deal that would perhaps benefit both of us.”

Pointing toward the people behind her, and gesturing toward the burned and battered remains of Hope’s Brigade, he had begun to speak although his tone instead of being mocking was rather serious, “Since I am rather curious how you humans have managed to stubbornly survive, I am willing to allow you to show me how you’ve done so, give me a good reason to spare all of you. Show me how this…” He paused, his mind filtering through words only to continue in his speech, Human spirit has managed to make you all survive. If you manage to convince me to spare all of you, then I will leave after two months of observation and never return, nor will I inform my master of your location.” A cruel light came to his eyes as he continued, However, if you fail to convince me to spare all of you, I will make sure that each and every one of you humans suffer before any of you receive my master’s gracious gift. Understand?”

Slowly, the ghoul had crouched down before the woman upon her knees, peering into her gaze, “This is the only offer I’m going to give you. If you refuse now, then I’ll turn all of you into the undead.” He knew how humans operated, if there was a single chance they could possibly get out of a dismal situation, he knew they would take it. He wasn’t giving them any room to refuse, not like he should have been making a deal with the humans in the first place, but perhaps he truly was curious about them, more so this human woman. He had every intention to perhaps understand this strange power that she was emanating before him, that and he was slightly impressed how long Hope’s Brigade had managed to hold out.

He knew she would accept his rather gracious offer. The stunned and shocked expressions of the humans surrounding them was amusing enough for him to perhaps laugh, that was unless he were to keep his cool composure. Her questions that followed however was reasonable enough concern he supposed, and as she had raised out of her knelt position so did he, looking upon the humans who were currently being held hostage by his mindless subordinates. He could see the hunger in their eyes as they practically were drooling at the prey before them. Barbaric in nature sure, and Yube was no better than such undead instinct, however if he were to soldify this deal, putting the humans at ease were his first priority.

"Reasonable concerns of course, but fear not, I am a man of my word," A sly smile crossed his cold features, "I have full control over my minions, if it would put you at ease, I'll make sure that they'll withdraw from this village for the two months duration. Being as I wish to merely observe, I'll have no intentions of laying a single finger on any of your allies, that would be counter productive, no?"

"My master desires swift results, taking these two months of time would perhaps draw his ire, but I'll make sure that no possible harm will occur before your two months of time is over." The ghoul surely was being transparent with his words, revealing the position he was putting himself in. This deal would be violating his master's wishes, delaying adding the pitiful humans to his master's already massive army of undead. If anything, he was perhaps putting himself on the line of fire for his master's rage, an odd situation that he never thought he'd be willing enough to put himself in, but then again this would be a good chance for him to find something to amuse himself with if only for a little while.

"Surely, that would be satisfactory enough for you?" He held out his hand, a gesture that he did upon odd reflex. The ghoul knew not why he was extending his hand out, as if in a handshake something that he had long forgotten, after all it had been seven years since he'd been turned into the monster he was now. He didn't question it too much for now, as retracting his hand in this moment would perhaps be even more so odd.

Her threat in response, no, it was more of a promise with his minions made his smile broaden. Oh, it certainly wasn’t lost on him at all, though he would much prefer avoiding killing any of the humans far too early; that simply wouldn’t be too fun at all. However, as she had reached out and surprisingly enough grasped his hand to firmly shake it in return, he felt and odd sensation tingling at the back of his mind. The heat from her hand was unfamiliar, yet oddly enough comfortable all the same. His skin lacked the warmth of the living, having grown cold and pale in coloration from death, and his skin lacked the usual softness of human skin, being papery almost in texture, thin if one could properly describe it.

Of course, he was quick to withdraw his hand as soon as she would let go of it. Holding unto her hand was not something he wanted to do for an extended period of time, the human warmth was a bit too much for the mage to get accustomed to, and he for one didn’t very much feel too keen on getting physical with any of the humans… unless of course to either kill them or raise them as undead themselves.

He watched as the woman retreated back amongst her people and reach to hug yet another human, the interaction made once more the odd sensation of a tingling within his mind begin. His face briefly squinted in discomfort before shaking his head and turning his gaze to the ghouls who were still lingering quite close to the humans, peering upon them with that mindless hunger in their eyes. He supposed he did need to call them off before they could do any damage to these pathetic creatures.

Raising his staff, he tapped the end of the staff twice against the earth beneath him which seemed to cause the ghouls surrounding the humans to immediately react, their corpses moving slowly to face Yube before shambling over to the ruined pieces of wall that they had barged and broken through in the battle that had taken place just moments before. The reek of death of course followed them as they left, the silent instruction the mage had given them was to return to his master. He had no use of them currently, and if the humans had any smart ideas in trying to slay him, well he was a mage after all. Teleporting was simply one of his many, many abilities that he could pull off easily enough, granted he could only use such things sparingly as it was quite taxing upon his undead body.

Yube’s attention now turned to inspect the damage he had inflicted upon the village as the woman had spoken that the humans were to clean up the damage. He had to admit, he’d certainly did a number upon the ruined village, from the still smoldering fires, to horribly trampled crops, and of course the damages to the wall he had broken through with his army, he’d had to admit with a bit of smug pride that he had done plenty of damage. Now, how would the humans go about fixing this mess? Perhaps he would amuse himself and help them? He almost laughed aloud at the thought, as if that would happen.

He looked now back to the humans who he had so graciously spared for now, then back to the fires still consuming the village. Well, if they were to go about mending the place, he supposed he’d give him a little shove first in the right direction to hurry along their recovery. Wasn’t he quite the gracious soul?

Stepping past the mass of humans, he looked toward the trampled crops, inspecting them for a few moments longer only to slowly make his way toward where the humans had secured a water way for themselves. How interesting, this would be why he couldn’t go about poisoning them the usual way. From what he could see, they had made a manmade system to flow to their crops as well as leading to the river facing north if they desired more water. I should have tried to send scouts out through here months ago, oh well… Raising his hand, the ghoul motioned toward the water way and some water began to float upward, leaning eagerly to his will as with a simple flick of his wrist, he had manipulated the water to send it flying toward the nearest burning building although with such a small amount not being enough to put out the roaring flames completely, Yube simply made a current of water begin to follow what he had sent flying.

The current bent and flowed like that of a snake throughout the air, colliding with its target and spreading toward the other buildings of which were also suffering from the burning flames. To Yube, this was something minor for him to control and with his proficiency in the arts; it was a bit terrifying to consider that Yube could very well not have to use his minions at all. If he had wanted, Yube could manipulate the very ground beneath him, or the air at simply any desire he may have. But, he refrained, mostly out his master’s wishes for him to contain himself on the battlefield less there would be nothing left.

Yube had mostly ignored the sounds of movement behind him, although he did hear quite the audible gasp from behind him which did cause him to be curious if only for a few seconds before dismissing it just as quickly. Controlling the flow of the water was far more important for now and required most of his attention, less it would go out of his control and that certainly would not be pleasant. As the stream of water continued to pour down upon the fires where he desired to direct it, he did hear footsteps beginning to approach him from behind which caused him to stop temporarily, looking over his shoulder toward the woman which made him raise an eyebrow back at her considering how she was approaching him.

Her question did cause another smile to cross Yube’s face as he responded, “Is my aide not wanted? I merely was trying to give a hand with putting out these fires, surely your people would much rather focus on repairs than expend their energy on such a task?” He looked away from her and back toward the stream of water he was guiding to put out each fire it came in contact with, “I did say I would observe, but I’d rather not stand back and watch such a boring task take place. And unlike you humans, I do not tire, nor do I need to rest.”

He chuckled, his pale gold eyes turning to the woman once more in an almost mocking expression, “Such a shame you decided to try and hold out another two months against such a rewarding gift, no?” Of course, such small jabs would be expected, but he certainly was keeping to his word about not turning anyone into the undead yet. He was a bit interested in the humans here, more particularly this human with such large amounts of power.

As he turned his focus back to the fires, after a few lengthy moments he finally spoke once more, “However, I would think that this would be a rather trivial task for yourself. The amount of power within your body is enough to perhaps strengthen not only you but the people around you, why do you not use it?” The question was one that didn’t seem sarcastic, he was genuinely curious. Why did she refuse to use the power clearly within her? It clearly would be enough to save her people from this situation, or even fend off his forces for perhaps a few months longer, even push them back.

Once again, her response had caused him to laugh a little in response. He supposed she had a point, but he had no intention of assisting them any further than this, the rest they would have to do on their own with their own strength. A simple little fire like this wasn't time consuming for one such as he, though it did indeed draw on his reservoir of mana, it was merely a tiny fraction of the massive potential he had unlocked within himself, and he would continue to grow with such use. "Fear not, I have no intention to help you pitiful beings past putting out these fires." After all, why should he? A great magic user such as himself would have no need help them any further than his generosity had already given them so far.

His question however seemed to cause a rather strange reaction in the woman. From the sudden tension in her body, to the sudden pale coloration of her face, these were reactions that told him something very, very interesting before she could even say a single word. He watched her face change rapidly to one of false confidence, but his eyes could see past it. She's panicking. Yube was no fool, and even though he no longer was human and had been severed from his human emotions and memories, the ghoul had seen such panic in humans during his many, many conquests under the guidance of his master. They held onto a false bravado, forcing themselves to appear confident when they clearly were anything but. This was akin to the same reaction he had managed to draw from the human woman which made the mage drop his focus from the water he had been previously guiding to the fires to focus on her.

Her swift deflection made Yube raise an eyebrow at the response. To anyone else, her answer would be perhaps seen as passable, something that would make sense considering they were indeed enemies and allowing such precious information to be spilt was dangerous. But, Yube was not normal in the slightest. Her odd behavior alone was enough to gain his suspicion and more terrifying, his curiosity. He was now more curious than ever, and she had unfortunately placed herself as a target before his eyes.

Yube was a very curious individual, although he didn't remember his prior personality or past to when he had become a ghoul, but such curiosity came with a hunger of wanting to gain knowledge. And what was worse, his greed for knowledge cannot be stopped by mere normal methods. As the woman turned away, his lips parted in a chilling smile, his gold eyes gleaming with an equally disturbing light. Ah, now I'm really curious. The mage turned away as he spoke dismissively, though there seemed to be an odd giddiness to his tone, "My mistake. I'll try to refrain from asking unnecessary questions... for a little while that is."

She was clearly hiding something from him, he wanted to know quite desperately. But, Yube needed to be patient. As much as he wanted to know, he would have to focus on dousing fires and observing the humans as they went about repairing the extensive damage, and so this was what Yube set about doing, although avoiding the other humans for the most part as he once again set to manipulating the water source with ease to douse each and every fire he spotted until all of the fires that had once blazed bright were no longer.

Once this task was done, a rather easy task to the mage, he would then set to begin observations of the humans as they worked. The ghoul watched their struggling, from picking up the dead who had been indeed slaughtered during the fighting earlier, to the priesthood going about and tending wounds while others who weren't exhausted were settled on doing repairs, the sound of activity buzzed about him and made him feel... Nostalgic.

It was an odd sensation, as if he had heard such sounds before. Although, certainly avoid of the sounds of the injured, but rather the shouts of people asking for supplies or moving such precious supplies around. This noisy chatter felt too familiar. Gradually, a frown had worked its way upon his features, continuing to overlook the human's pitiful efforts. He did not understand why this felt so familiar to him, not only giving way to nostalgia but a feeling of intense longing that coiled in his chest. It was oddly painful.

How strange. The ghoul hadn't expected such an odd response to simply watching the humans go about working, but it did make some questions float about within his mind. Just why did he feel such strange feelings? Surely his emotions had to have been numbed to where he could barely feel anything. These other sensations were very puzzling, but as confused as he was, there seemed to be little room for answers just yet. He just needed to be patient.
